The school follows a scheme of work for science that is packed full of hands-on experiments, creative investigations and new approaches to traditional topics.
Science
In line with the National Curriculum, Maldon Court provides a high-quality science education which aims to build foundations for understanding the world around us. With an understanding of key foundational knowledge and concepts, pupils are encouraged to ask questions and develop a sense of excitement and curiosity.
The children are helped to understand how science can be used to explain what is occurring, predict how things will behave, and analyse causes; develop understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries and are equipped with the scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science, today and for the future.
Lessons are enhanced with high quality visits to local museums and nature reserves where children can engage with enthusiastic and knowledgeable experts in awe inspiring locations.

Computer Studies

At Maldon Court, computer studies is taught as an individual subject and is also used on a daily basis in other areas of the curriculum. We believe that it is vital for pupils of all ages to gain the ability and confidence to use technology on a regular basis, which is why we have acquired a new set of tablets for use by all year groups. Site-wide broadband access guarantees WiFi access for every pupil and they also have their own Microsoft Office account.
Our pupils are gradually introduced to a vast array of disciplines including word processing, spreadsheet work, database creation and website design. We also place great emphasis on other skills that they will need to become the programmers, web designers, problem solvers and game makers of the future.
Pupils have the opportunity to improve their computing skills and boost their confidence by attending computer club, where they can play games and interact with each other in a more leisurely setting. Computer studies is regarded as an exciting and important part of school life.
DESIGN TECHNOLOGy
Design and technology is not only a practical and dynamic subject - it is also truly cross-curricular. It demands a broad range of subject knowledge, drawing on disciplines such as mathematics, science, engineering, computing and art. Pupils need to apply knowledge that they have learned in other subjects to problem solve and complete their design brief.
From the early years onwards, design technology encourages creativity, problem solving, manual dexterity, the confidence to tackle innovative design tasks and the ability to critically evaluate work. It is also really exciting and good fun!
