At Maldon Court we think that art is an essential component of a well-rounded education and we aim to nurture and enhance all artistic ability.

ARt

We encourage pupils to use their imagination and creativity in a variety of mediums that provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences.

We really do agree with Picasso’s comment that "Every child is an artist" and all of our pupils have the opportunity to experiment with painting, drawing, printing, textiles and clay. This allows them to discover and develop a wide range of skills and boost their confidence in at least one of these areas. In addition to cultivating their own skills, pupils of all ages learn to recognise and appreciate the artistic work of others.

Participation in a weekly after school art club is encouraged for those pupils who wish to spend more time improving their creative skills. Our pupils are also encouraged to showcase their work in local art competitions.

“Imagination is more important than knowledge.”
— Albert Einstein

Music

We think that music is hugely important in the life of the school. Our prime aim is that all pupils have the chance to enjoy a broad music education. They will be introduced to a wide range of music, through listening, performing and composing. The emphasis at Maldon Court is on fun, enjoyment and appreciation.

Pupils of all ages are encouraged to sing in the choir, play an instrument and perform at events both inside and outside the school. We have a singing assembly at least once a week for whole school and each class gets a specialist music lesson in which they learn to read music, compose and perform in front of others.

Our really talented musicians have opportunities to perform on a wider stage and are encouraged to participate in regional and national events.

“Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.”
— Plato

DRAMA

At Maldon Court, we look to develop a pupil’s creative mind and ‘emotional intelligence’. All children are involved in drama, using games, exercises and improvisation to develop creativity, imagination, thinking, speaking and listening skills. Confidence is developed through performance and the school ensures that every child is involved in a drama or musical performance of one sort or another during the course of the year.

Prep school children acting in costume

The highlight of the year is a Prep School Drama or Musical Production, performing to an audience of parents, friends and family members.

“You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.”
— Lewis Carroll, Alice in Wonderland
