At Maldon Court we think that art is an essential component of a well-rounded education and we aim to nurture and enhance all artistic ability.
ARt
We encourage pupils to use their imagination and creativity in a variety of mediums that provide visual, tactile and sensory experiences.
We really do agree with Picasso’s comment that "Every child is an artist" and all of our pupils have the opportunity to experiment with painting, drawing, printing, textiles and clay. This allows them to discover and develop a wide range of skills and boost their confidence in at least one of these areas. In addition to cultivating their own skills, pupils of all ages learn to recognise and appreciate the artistic work of others.
Participation in a weekly after school art club is encouraged for those pupils who wish to spend more time improving their creative skills. Our pupils are also encouraged to showcase their work in local art competitions.
““Imagination is more important than knowledge.””
Music
Our objective for Music at Maldon Court is for all children to develop a love of music through creative and practical opportunities. Our music program offers a variety of approaches: recorders, movement, a composer study, our very popular xylo-karate program (which allows children to master an understanding of notation at their own pace), composition using music technology, school performances and exposure to a wide range of genres.
Our children attend a weekly singing assembly where we sing songs together that make us happy and learn new pieces to perform at our school events such as Harvest Festival, our Christmas service and open day.
We have many extracurricular options: Our well-established choir - open to all KS2 children - rehearse weekly and perform at events and competitions across the year. Children are also able to learn the Toot or Dood and take piano lessons and we have an orchestra as well. We believe that all children should be able to express themselves through music which is highly beneficial to wellbeing.
““Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything.””
DRAMA
At Maldon Court, we look to develop a pupil’s creative mind and ‘emotional intelligence’. All children are involved in drama, using games, exercises and improvisation to develop creativity, imagination, thinking, speaking and listening skills. Confidence is developed through performance and the school ensures that every child is involved in a drama or musical performance of one sort or another during the course of the year.
The highlight of the year is a Prep School Drama or Musical Production, performing to an audience of parents, friends and family members.
““You’re mad, bonkers, completely off your head. But I’ll tell you a secret. All the best people are.””
